Filter your contacts across multiple lists by searching for a name, email address, email domain, company information, address, or custom fields

Light Bulb IconDid you know? We're in the process of making improvements to the All contacts table and rolling it out to our customers. If your All contacts table looks different, view this article for searching for contacts instead.

Use the Search feature to find a specific contact, or group of contacts, based on their email address or email domain, first or last name, job title, company, city, state, ZIP code, or any custom fields that you've created. The search is a "starts with" search that looks for matches across all of your lists, and ignores a contact's status.

  1. From the contacts dashboard, click the Contacts tab.
Note: If you know the list your contact is on, you can further narrow your search by clicking the Lists tab, clicking on the list name, and then performing your contact search.
  2. Choose the criteria you want to search for.
Note: If you have less than 50,000 contacts in your account, Name and Email Address are combined into a single search. If you have over 50,000 contacts, the options for First Name, Last Name, and Email Address appear individually.
  3. Enter the first letter, or couple of letters, of the email address, name, job title, company name, city, state, ZIP code, or custom field into the Search field and hit Enter. If you are searching for an email domain, make sure to include the whole domain, including the .com, .org, .net, .gov, etc. at the end.  For example, search for "gmail.com," not "gmail." To clear a search, just click the X in the Search field and you'll see all your contacts again.

Contacts dashboard with Contacts tab selected, Search field with criteria menu expanded and Name or Email option selected and search characters entered, and Search results with search characters in First name, Last name, and Email address columns

Now that you have your search results, there are several different actions you can take:

Clock IconSave Time: If you find yourself doing the same search over and over, try using our segmentation tools instead! You can create a segment based on the contact details and custom fields you have on file for your contacts, or based on their engagement activity, and then add the segment to a contact list. The segment is saved and can be refreshed so that you know you've always got the most current list of contacts that meet your search criteria.
