Adding View in Browser Links to Emails

Email recipients can view your email in their browser when you add a view in browser link to your emails. This gives recipients the ability to view your email if they have HTML disabled or images turned off in their email client.

Adding a View in Browser Link

You can automate the placement of view in browser links in your emails. Be aware that this automatic placement only applies to bulk and automated email sends.

To add a view in browser link to an email, create or edit an email from the Email tab in the left toolbar. 

  1. Click  email.png  Send Settings in the left panel.
  2. Click the Include “view in browser” link checkbox.
     
    Important: Do not click the Include "view in browser" link checkbox when creating Smart Mails. Smart Mails must use the merge variable instead.
  3. Click Save.

The view in browser link will display at the bottom of any emails sent with this checkbox enabled. Once clicked, the link will go to a web page with http://v.marketingautomation.services/ in the URL.

Note: Clicking the View in Browser Link within a preview email will result in an error message. The View in Browser link does not work within preview emails.


Changing the Location of the View in Browser Link

The View in Browser Link is one of the default merge variables. Enter the merge variable {$viewInBrowserLink} anywhere within the email. 

To change the view in browser link location, do the following:

  1. Double-click the text of the email, where you would like the View in Browser Link to be located.
  2. Click Merge in the Content Editor toolbar that appears. 
  3. Click Link Merge Variables then View in Browser Link to add the {$viewInBrowserLink} merge variable.
     
    Note: You can copy and paste the {$viewInBrowserLink} merge variable to add View in Browser Link anywhere you want in the email.
  4. Click Save.

Once added, a view in browser link will be added with the following text:

View this email in your browser

View in browser link email

 



Changing View in Browser Text

You can customize the view in browser link text.

To customize link text, add a view in browser merge variable to an email.

  1. Double-click into the email, on the text you want to turn into the View in Browser Link.
  2. Click the Link icon in the toolbar.

  3. Paste the {$viewInBrowserLink} merge variable in the URL field.
  4. Optionally, add a Title for your link. This can help with SEO.
  5. Choose to have your link open in the Current Window or a New Window. Best practices dictates that you open the link in a new window. 
  6. If you have set any CSS to style your link, enter the class for that CSS in the Class drop-down menu. Read For Developers: Email Designer Classes and Styles Overview for more information on classes. 
  7. Click Save.
  8. Click Save again.
