Auto-sync your Xero contact data into Constant Contact and export new contacts from Constant Contact into Xero

Email Plus IconNot seeing this integration? Our integration with Xero is being gradually rolled out to our customers, so if you don't see it in your account yet, stay tuned!

Our integration with Xero allows you to auto-sync contact data into Constant Contact, saving you time and allowing you to send more targeted emails. You can import all Xero contacts at once or set up imports for specific Xero groups.

The integration is bi-directional, meaning you can set up imports to pull data from Xero into Constant Contact and a single export to pull data for brand new contacts from Constant Contact into Xero.

Connect your Xero account

  1. Click Tools > Apps & Integrations.
  2. Under the "All Integrations" tab, either search for Xero or scroll through the list to locate it. Then click on the block.

  4. Log into your Xero account.

    Enter login credentials

  5. If you have more than one organization set up within your Xero account, you'll be prompted to select which organization you'd like to sync contacts from. Then click Allow Access.

    Allow Access

You will then be brought to your Xero integration dashboard within Constant Contact. A banner will appear at the top indicating that you can now import contacts.

Create an import

Once you successfully connect your Xero and Constant Contact accounts, you can begin importing contacts. From the Xero integration dashboard page:

  1. Click Import contacts.

    Import contacts button

  2. Select the type of import you'd like to conduct:

    • Import all contacts - Import contacts lists from Xero.
    • Import specific contact groups - Import contacts from a specific Xero group. If you select this option, choose the group from the dropdown.
  3. Click Continue.

Import all Xero contacts or a select group

  4. If you would like to allow newly added contacts to be exported from Constant Contact to Xero, click Allow access. Otherwise, you can click Set up later and set up the export at a later time, if you wish.

    Enable export for Xero

  5. Select the list to import your contacts into, or create a new list.

  6. Select how often this list should be updated, pulling in new data from Xero.
  7. Select how the imports should be handled.

    • Overwrite - Replace all existing contacts in the list with data imported from Xero
    • Merge - Only import new contacts, not currently found in your list from Xero, and update existing contacts that have new data

  8. Click Continue.

Select list to import into, frequency, and whether to merge or overwrite

  9. Checkmark the box to confirm that you have permission to send emails to these contacts.
  10. Review the summary and then click Import.

    Confirm permission and import

You'll then be returned to your Xero integration dashboard, where you can see a list of all your imports, along with the status and details of each. When you create a new import, it will initially be listed in an In Process status.

Once the import is complete, the status will update to Success.

If desired, you can create multiple scheduled imports.

Create an export

Because our integration with Xero is bi-directional, new contacts can be exported from Constant Contact into your Xero account. Please note that only new contacts that exist in Constant Contact but do not exist in your Xero account will be exported. If a contact exists in Xero and you make an update to that contact in Constant Contact, that new data will not be synced into your Xero account. To create an export:

  1. Click Enable export.

    Xero Enable Export

  2. Click Allow access.

    Allow access to xero export

At any point, you can disable the Constant Contact to Xero export by clicking Disable export.

Boost your marketing with the Xero integration

Once you've set up your imports and your Xero contacts are successfully syncing into Constant Contact, you can target them with customized messaging in various ways.

Create a customized contact segment

When importing from Xero, you have the flexibility to choose which contact group you'd like to sync into a Constant Contact list. But maybe you want to segment these contacts even further in order to send specific, targeted messaging. You can do so by creating a custom segment of contacts.
