Send a test version of your email to review and proofread before you schedule



Previewing an email and sending yourself a test version of your draft not only gives you a chance to proofread and make edits, but it also gives you an idea of what your email will look like to your contacts when you send the final version. You can send a test version to yourself, or to the people you trust to review your content for you.

ImportantImportant: Keep in mind that you can send an unlimited number of tests to the verified email addresses in your account, but to prevent abuse of the test system, you're limited to 50 test emails to unverified addresses in a 24-hour period.

Send a test

Send a test email to yourself or to anyone you want to proofread your email before you send it out to your contacts.

Once you’re done editing your email draft:

  1. Click Preview & Test > Send Test.

  2. Type in the email address you want to send your test email to. You can add up to 5 email addresses.
  3. Type a personal note to give instructions to your proofreaders. This note is only visible on the test send and won’t display on the live send to your contacts.
  4. Click Send Now.

Design TipTip: Each email client has different ways of displaying your email content. Good email design will help your email display consistently across multiple email clients and devices. Don't forget to open your test email on your mobile device too!

 

Some features don't work in an email's preview or test version, including the Unsubscribe and Update Profile links in the email footer, personalization, dynamic content blocks, and dynamic links. Click segmentation is another feature that will not work with test or preview sends. If you want to test all features, copy your email and send the copy to yourself before sending the original to your contacts.

 


Troubleshoot

If you're unable to send a test email, or if you sent a test and can't find it in your inbox, there are a few courses of action you can take:

  • Send limit: You're limited to 50 test email sends to unverified addresses in a 24-hour period. If you hit this limit, your account will lock and you won't be able to send any test emails for 24 hours, including to your verified email addresses. To test an email before your account unlocks, you can make a copy of your email and send it only to the people who need to review it.
  • Spam: Check your inbox's spam folder. If you find your test email in the spam folder, then it's likely to be picked up by your contacts' spam filters as well. Check to make sure you’re avoiding these common things that trigger spam filters, and try checking your spam score to resolve the issue before sending again.
  • Safelisting (formerly referred to as whitelisting): An email provider or security service may not be letting your email through. If your test email isn't being delivered to the intended recipients, make sure to have your From email address added to the safe sender list.  

 

Send the live version

 

Once you've sent the test version of your email, you've proofread and made any necessary edits, it's time to send out the live version to your contacts. Send it out immediately, or schedule it to send at a set date and time in the future.
