If you notice contacts added to your account via a Sign-up Landing Page that appear to be spam entries—often the contact’s name will contain an objectionable or nonsensical word—you were likely the target of a bot attack.
Constant Contact takes this seriously, and is working to block fraudulent sign-ups from occurring. In the meantime, there are steps you can take to protect your account.
If there are a large number of bot-generated contacts, remove them from your account by exporting them and then re-importing them as a file of unsubscribed contacts.
If there are a small handful, you can mark each as unsubscribed one by one.
By turning on Confirmed Opt-in, you can prevent bot-generated contacts from being added to your account.
When Confirm Opt-in is activated, contacts who sign up for your mailing list through one of our sign-up tools are sent an automatic Confirm Opt-in Email to the email address they provided, asking them to confirm their subscription. Contacts must click the confirmation link in the email to be added to your list. The result is that only real-life contacts who want to hear from you, and not the bot-generated ones, will be added to your list.
When the Confirm Opt-in Email is sent out, the contact is marked as "Awaiting Confirmation" within your account. After turning on Confirmed Opt-in, if you see a large number of contacts in this status, this could be a sign of a bot attack. Contacts in this status will not receive further emails from you, unless they confirm their subscription.
