Best practices for writing the event description

Article: 000049736

Use the description field to summarize the important aspects of your event and entice people to register

When you create your event, you have the option to include a description while filling out the Event Basics information. The description field has a maximum of 600 characters, so we recommend a description that is short and catchy. Include just enough information that explains what the event is all about, but doesn't contain repetitive information. For example, you don't have to include the event title or dates/times in the description because those pieces of information are filled out elsewhere in the Event Basics.

Here are some questions to ask yourself about your event to help you write your description:

  • What is the main goal of your event?
  • Does your target audience belong in a certain age group, have a shared interest, or work in a specific industry?
  • Is your event benefiting a charity or cause?
  • Will there be guest speakers, performers, or live music?
  • Are activities planned?
  • Will food or drinks be served or available to purchase?
  • Will there be raffles or prizes?
  • Is there a dress code?
  • Do your attendees need to bring anything, like supplies or donations?
  • Will participants be able to purchase unique items?
  • Does your event already have a recognizable slogan that's being used?
  • What makes your event stand out from similar events with the same goal?
  • Is your event recurring or is it a one-time event?

When you're ready to write your description, pick only the most important details, use action words to entice people to attend, and don't be afraid to invoke a little FOMO (fear of missing out). What you choose not to include in your description can be added into your event invitation, landing page, or social posts about your event.
