Review ads in the active, ended, draft, error, pending, paused, or scheduled status and learn what actions can be taken to change the status

A Facebook and Instagram Ad or Lead Ad can go through many different statuses during its lifecycle. To check the status of your ad:

  1. Click Audience growth ... > Ads.

  2. Review the following statuses:

    Ad statusDefinitionActions you can take
DraftThe ad hasn't yet been published and can be designed and edited.

The status changes to "Scheduled" if a future date has been chosen to display the ad, or it changes to "Pending" while the ad is prepared in Facebook, and then becomes "Active" when published.
ScheduledThe ad is scheduled to start at a later date, or the ad is waiting for a selected Lookalike Audience to process.
    • Ads with a Lookalike Audience can stay in this status for up to 12 hours while the audience processes.

The status changes to "Pending" once it reaches the chosen publishing date or the Lookalike Audience finishes processing. When the ad is ready in Facebook, it's published and the status changes to "Active."

Unscheduling an ad reverts it back to "Draft" status.
    • Unschedule
PendingThe ad is published, but we're creating all the ad assets in Facebook:
    • Ads can stay in this status for up to 6 hours
    • An attempt is made to publish the ad on Facebook every 15 minutes

When the ad is ready in Facebook, the status changes to "Active" and is visible to Facebook and Instagram users.

    ActiveThe ad is either:
    • Under review by Facebook and will be published soon.
    • Currently being displayed to Facebook and Instagram users.

When the ad reaches its end date, the status changes to "Ended."
PausedThe ad has been removed from the view of Facebook and Instagram users by the user.

While paused, the ad can be edited from the Ad Details page.

Once the ad is resumed, the status turns back to "Active" until it reaches its end date and changes to "Ended."
EndedThe ad has completed its scheduled run time, or the ad has been unpublished by the user.

Ads in the "Ended" status can't be re-published, but they can be copied from the Ad Details page.
    • Remove
    ErrorThe ad failed to process.

Ads in the "Error" state can be copied from the Ad Details page.
    • Remove
    RemovedThe ad has been deleted.
    • Removing an ad removes it from view on the Campaigns tab and moves it to the Deleted folder.
    • Restoring the ad makes it visible and searchable on the Campaigns tab and restores its original status.
