Send an automated email series to your Shopify customers

Automatically send a series of emails to customers when they place their first order

If you have a Shopify store, you can set up an automated email series that sends to customers when they make their first purchase. For example, you can send a “thank you” series, request a review of their purchase, or recommend additional products they may be interested in purchasing.

  1. Click Marketing channels > All campaigns.
  2. Click Create a campaign.
  3. Select Email Automation.

  4. Select Shopify order.

  5. Name your series.
    Note: Contacts who receive an email from your series won't see this name — they instead see the subject line for each email.
  6. Click Save.

  7. (Optional) If you haven’t connected your Shopify account to Constant Contact yet, click Connect. Once your store is connected, you’ll return here to continue creating your series. 
  8.  Click Save.

  9. Select how you’d like to create the first email in your series:
    • Create New Email - Select a template to create a new email from scratch.
    • Copy Existing Email - Select one of your previous emails from the drop-down to make a copy of and click Save.

  10. If you selected the Create New Email option, select an email template and add your content. Once you’re done editing the email, click Continue to be brought back to your automated series.

  11. (Optional) To create another email and add it to the end of your series, click the + Add to series button. You can add up to 31 steps in your series.
  12. (Optional) Click “Edit” to adjust the time delay between email sends.
  13. Once you’re ready, click Activate to start your series.
    Exclamation Point IconImportant: Once your series is Active, you’ll only be able to make edits to the content of the emails. You won't be able to re-order or delete any steps, or edit any of the time delays between steps.

  14. Click Continue to scan your series for potential errors. If no issues are detected, your series automatically updates to the Active status.

Once your series is Active, contacts who place their first order in your Shopify store will be added to the queue to receive your email series. Note: We check for new first orders every 12 hours. You can check the reporting as your series progresses, and we'll continue looking for new first orders until you decide to disable the trigger or stop the series
