Make changes to step emails within an actively sending automated email series

Exclamation Point IconNote: This article is for our legacy automated email series feature. If you’re using our new Automation Path Builder, please reference this article instead.

Already activated your automated email series, but need to make edits to the content of an email? Instead of canceling your series and starting over, you can easily edit a step email while your series continues to send to queued contacts. Once you save your changes, the updated email will overwrite the previous version within the series. You aren't able to add, remove, or re-order the emails within an active series.

Note: If your automated email series is still in Scheduled status, unschedule the series to make any edits needed in Draft status.

  1. Click Marketing channels > All campaigns.
  2. (Optional) Use the filters to help narrow your search.
  3. Click Manage next to your Active automated email series.

  4. For the step email you want to edit, click . . . > Edit Email. You can only edit Active step emails, since steps marked as Done don't have any more contacts in the queue to receive it. Not seeing the option to edit? Some emails created with our legacy email editor can't be edited.

  6. Make your edits to the email and click Save or Continue when you’re finished. Note: You won’t have the option to preview or send a test version of your edited email.
Exclamation Point IconImportant: When editing an action block, other than an RSVP or Poll block, any changes made to the email will automatically save and overwrite the existing email in the series.
  7. Click Confirm to save your changes and overwrite the existing email. Until you save your changes, the previous version of the email continues to send.
Exclamation Point IconImportant: Once you click Confirm, any changes made will be permanent and you won’t be able to revert back to the previous email version.

Your changes have been saved and any contacts in the queue will receive the updated version of the email. If you share the permanent URL for the email, it will reflect the original version of the email prior to the changes made.
