Multi-Factor Authentication

What is Multi-Factor Authentication and why is it important?

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an extra layer of security for your account. In addition to your password, MFA requires a secondary factor to verify your identity when logging in from a device we don't recognize. Depending on how MFA is set up, you’ll either receive a push notification on your mobile device asking you to confirm the login attempt, a text message with a verification code that will be valid for 5 minutes to provide when logging in, or a phone call with a verification code to provide when logging in.

Why is Multi-Factor Authentication important?

The majority of data breaches and phishing attacks involve stolen or weak login credentials. By using an additional means to confirm it’s really you attempting to access your account, MFA can help prevent these attacks, reduce the risk of other cyber security threats, such as account takeovers, and protect your personal information from hackers.

What is a push notification?

A push notification is a message that automatically pops up on your mobile device, whether or not you’re currently using the device or application. In the case of multi-factor authentication, it’s the message that’s sent prompting you to approve the log-in attempt for your Constant Contact account.

What is SMS Authentication?

SMS (or Short Message System) is what allows a mobile device to receive text messages. SMS Authentication is a type of multi-factor authentication used to verify your identity when logging into your account. For SMS Authentication, you receive a text message to your device and the message includes a unique, single-use code that you’re required to enter, in addition to your password, when signing into your Constant Contact account.
Note: Both U.S. and international numbers are supported with SMS authentication.

What is Okta Verify?

Okta Verify is the mobile application Constant Contact uses to send the push notifications you receive on your mobile device when signing into your Constant Contact account. After downloading the Okta Verify app to your device, you’ll be able to verify your identity by approving the push notification or by entering a one-time code. Learn more.

What is Google Authenticator?

Google Authenticator is another mobile application that can be used for multi-factor authentication when signing into your Constant Contact account. After downloading the Google Authenticator app to your mobile device, you’ll be able to verify your identity by entering a one-time code that's generated in the app.

What is Voice Call Authentication?

Voice Call Authentication allows you to enter in a phone number and receive a call in order to authenticate. When prompted, you will receive a phone call on the phone number you provided and you'll be supplied with a code, verbally, that you'll enter in order to sign in to your account.
Note: Both U.S. and international numbers are supported with Voice Call authentication.
