View imported contacts that previously unsubscribed

Check your recently important contacts for contacts that previously unsubscribed from your contact list and export them into a spreadsheet

After you import a file of contacts, it's a good idea to check for contacts that have already been marked as unsubscribed. Constant Contact remembers any contacts that previously unsubscribed from your mailing list, even if you deleted the unsubscribed contacts from your account. These contacts can't be mailed to by re-importing them and have to rejoin your list through one of our sign-up tools.

  1. From any tab of the contacts dashboard, click . . . > View Import/Export Activity in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Contacts dashboard with List tab selected, dashboard menu expanded and View Import/Export Activity option selected

  2. In the Activity table, find the Upload from File activity type, and click "Download" underneath the "Imported: One contact was imported but unsubscribed previously" caution. Contacts in the "unsubscribed" status can't be emailed, but if they rejoin your list through a sign-up form, they return to "active" status and can then be emailed. Each unsubscribed contact can be sent a single "resubscribe" email asking them to opt back in to your mailing list. Otherwise, unsubscribed contacts don't count towards your billing and you don't need to do anything further with them in your account.

Once you have the file saved on your computer, you can see which contacts are unsubscribed already, and then use the file to remove these individuals from your other databases to ensure that you're complying with Constant Contact's email permission policy as well as GDPR and CASL regulations for contacts that opt out of your list.
