Use Kiosk Mode to Restrict an iPad or Android Tablet to the ListBuilder App

Article: 000028541
Updated: February 26, 2026

Prevent users from navigating away from the ListBuilder App on an iPad or Android tablet by enabling "kiosk mode"

Leaving the ListBuilder app open on your tablet makes it easy for you to gather email addresses at your register, at a trade show, or at a craft fair table, but you don't want the public to be able to navigate away from the app and have access to the rest of your device. By putting your tablet into "kiosk mode", you can leave the app open, and users won't be able to navigate away from the app without having a passcode. Both Android and iOS devices have built-in features to help you:

Download the ListBuilder App

Be sure you have downloaded the Constant Contact ListBuilder application.

The Constant Contact ListBuilder App lets you collect names and email addresses on your tablet and add them to the list of your choice in your Constant Contact account. You don't even need to have internet access—the app collects the contact information and stores it, and once you have internet access again, it syncs with your Constant Contact account to add the new contacts.

This Constant Contact ListBuilder App is for tablets only:

  • iPads - The ListBuilder App can be downloaded from the Apple App Store for iOS 17.6 or higher.
  • Android tablets -The ListBuilder App can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for Android 6.0 or higher.

Read ListBuilder for Constant Contact to learn more.

Enable Guided Access for an iPad

Guided Access lets you keep a specific app open and disable hardware buttons and links so that you can prevent the app from being closed and prevent access to different parts of the app. You can use this feature with your ListBuilder application to collect contacts in person and at events.

To enable Guided Access ("Kiosk Mode") on an iPad:

  1. Open your Settings and tap Accessibility.
  2. In the GENERAL section, tap Guided Access.

  3. If Guided Access is disabled, tap the toggle to enable it.
  4. Tap Passcode Settings to require a passcode to leave the ListBuilder App.

  5. Tap Set Guided Access Passcode and enter a passcode to use when Guided Access is enabled.
  6. Optionally, enable Touch ID to disable Guided Access. This way, you can turn Guided Access off using Touch ID.

  7. Return to Guided Access settings and, optionally, choose to enable Time Limits and an Accessibility Shortcut.
  8. Tap Display Auto-Lock

  9. Tap "Never" to prevent your iPad from turning off while in Kiosk Mode, while idle. Please note that this will affect your device's battery life.

Note: Auto-Lock settings are also located under Display & Brightness. Your Guided Access auto-lock settings will only match your Display & Brightness settings if you select Default.

  10. Press the Home button on your tablet once to return to the home screen.
  11. Open the ListBuilder app.
  12. Enable your ListBuilder settings—select which information your contact form should include.
  13. Tap Next
  14. Quickly press the Home button three times.

Note: If Guided Access starts immediately, without giving you a chance to circle the parts of the app you want to disable, tap the home button 3 times again. Then circle the area.

  15. Circle the header area of the form so it will not work when someone tries to tap on it.
  16. Optionally, tap Session Settings to enable or disable Sleep Wake button, Volume Buttons, Motion, Software Keyboards, Touch, and Time Limits.
  17. Tap Start or tap Resume.

When you're ready to disable Guided Access, quickly press the Home button three times, then enter your passcode or use Touch ID if it's enabled. Tap End in the upper left corner of the screen.

Enable App Pinning for an Android Tablet

App pinning lets you open an app on an Android device and prevents other apps from being used until it is unpinned. When you couple app pinning with an "Admin Pin" in your ListBuilder app, it prevents you from navigating away from the Sign-up page in the ListBuilder app.

Android devices vary, and may have slightly different directions for the particular model and operating system you're using:

For Android 9.0 (Pie), Android 10.0, and Android 11.0

  1. Open Your Settings.
  2. Tap Security and Location.
  3. Scroll down to the Advanced section and tap Screen pinning or App pinning.
  4. Tap the toggle to turn it on.
  5. Optionally, tap the toggle to ask for a pin before the app can be unpinned.
  6. Press the Home button on your tablet.
  7. Open the ListBuilder app.
  8. Update your form content and tap "Go to form >."
  9. Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to view your open apps.
  10. Tap the icon centered at the top of the ListBuilder app.
  11. Tap Pin.
  12. Tap "GOT IT".

For Android 8.0 (Oreo)

  1. Open your Settings.
  2. Tap Biometrics and security.
  3. Tap Other security settings.
  4. Tap Pin windows.
  5. Tap the toggle to turn it on.
  6. Press the Home button on your tablet.
  7. Open the ListBuilder app.
  8. Update your form content and tap "Go to form >."
  9. Tap the Overview button on your tablet.
  10. Tap the pushpin icon in the lower right-hand corner of the ListBuilder app thumbnail.
  11. Tap OK.

For Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and Android 7.0 (Nougat)

  1. Open your Settings.
  2. Tap Security.
  3. Scroll down to the Advanced section and tap Pin windows or Screen Pinning.
  4. Tap the toggle to turn it on.
  5. Tap the toggle to ask for a pin or pattern before the app can be unpinned.
  6. Press the Home hardware button on your tablet.
  7. Open the Listbuilder app.
  8. Set an "Admin Pin." This prevents your users from navigating away from the List join screen.
  9. Update your form content and tap "Go to form >."
  10. From the Form screen, press the Overview hardware button.
  11. Tap on the pushpin icon in the lower right-hand corner of the Listbuilder app thumbnail.
  12. Tap Start.

When you're ready to disable the app pinning, press the Overview and Back hardware buttons at the same time.
