Resolve the "Your selected list is in use" error message that prevents you from deleting a list because an email is scheduled to send to it

While managing your lists, there may come a time when you try to delete a list and get an error message because an email is currently scheduled to send to it. This usually happens if you've chosen to send an email for a later date and then lose track of when it's sending.

Deleting a single list that is in use

When you try and delete a single list that is in use you receive the following error message:

Unable to delete list overlay, with name of scheduled email and Ok button

The error message includes the name of the email that is being sent to the selected list. Click Ok to close the message. If you need to delete the list, you have two options:

  • Prevent the email from sending - Once you unschedule the email, then you can delete the list.
  • Wait for the email to send - After the email has sent, you can delete the list. Deleting your list won't affect the reporting for the email. If you choose to delete the list and all the contacts on the list, their email addresses appear with a strikethrough in your email reporting.

Deleting multiple lists while one or more are in use

When you try and delete multiple lists, and one or more of them are in use, you receive the following error message.

Unable to delete all selected lists overlay with scheduled email for each affected list and Continue button

The error message includes the name of the email that is being sent to each list that is in use. Click Continue to delete the rest of your selected lists. Then you have two options for deleting each list that is in use:

  • Prevent the email from sending - Once you unschedule the email, then you can delete the list.
  • Wait for the email to send - After the email has sent, you can delete the list. Deleting your list won't affect the reporting for the email. If you choose to delete the list and all the contacts on the list, their email addresses appear with a strikethrough in your email reporting.
