Find the best time to send an email

Review your send history and open rate reporting to determine the best time to send your emails.

Your contact list is unique! Some contacts prefer to read their emails first thing in the morning, while others don't have a chance to check them until late into the evening. Whenever your contacts open, you want to make sure that your email is at the top of the inbox at that time.

To determine the best send time for your contacts, we recommend that you look at trends from past emails. Use the following methods to better target your send time for your contacts:

  • Look at send history - Start on the Reporting tab and in the Email campaigns table, compare the days and times your emails were sent in the Time Sent column to the open rate in the Opens column. The emails with higher open rates are likely sent at a better time for the contacts you sent them to. You can use this day and time as a benchmark to see if your open rates improve over time. Your send history is just a start, and you can look deeper into your opens reporting for more information.

  • Review the Open report - Focusing on your emails with the highest open rates, take a look at the Opened reports and review the Date/time column to see if you notice any patterns, such as a common day of the week or a particular time of day that your contacts opened the email. Filtering your opens by "All opens" shows you every open in the order they occurred, even if a contact opened more than once. If you notice that groups of contacts tend to open at different times, consider segmenting those contacts onto different lists, and instead of sending one email to everyone, create copies of your email and schedule them to send to each list at its own unique time.

Once you determine the best time to send emails for your audience, be consistent with how often you send and when. Your subscribers will come to know when to expect your emails, and this will help to improve your open rates, too.
