Unpublish an active Facebook and Instagram Ad or Lead Ad

Article: 000032017
Updated: February 28, 2025

Remove an ad from Facebook and Instagram to end your ad campaign

If you surpass your advertising goal or aren't happy with the performance of your ad, you can unpublish it at any time to end your ad campaign. Facebook doesn't charge you your full advertising budget up-front; it's paid over time. When your ad is cancelled, any remaining ad payments left in your budget stop and you aren't charged further.

  1. Click Audience growth ... > Ads.

  2. To help narrow your search:
    • Select "Active" from the Status drop-down menu.
    • Select an option from the Sort By drop-down menu.
  3. Next to your active ad, click Manage

Campaigns tab, List View tab selected, Campaigns menu with Ads selected, Status menu with Active selected, Sort menu with Last Modified option selected, active Facebook & Instagram Ad with Manage button

  4. Click the three dots and select "Deactivate" from the drop-down menu.

Facebook and Instagram Ad Details page with ... menu expanded and Unpublish option

  5. Click Deactivate to confirm your action.

Canceled ads can't be re-published, but you can later create a new Facebook Lead Ad or Facebook and Instagram Ad when you're ready.
