Upgrading your SMS plan as a Sole Proprietor

Article: 000051051
Updated: April 18, 2025

Reregistering for SMS marketing with an EIN to increase the amount of SMS messages you can send in a month

As a Sole Proprietor, you can register for SMS Marketing, but you are restricted to sending 500 SMS messages per month. By obtaining an Employer Identification Number (EIN) you're able to increase your SMS Marketing plan beyond the 500 SMS message tier.

A business, tax-exempt organization, or other entity can obtain a free EIN (federal tax ID number) directly from the IRS online. After you have successfully obtained your EIN (Employer Identification Number), please reach out to our dedicated Support Team. They will be available to assist you with the process of reregistering your account. During this reregistration, you will have the opportunity to select a higher messaging tier that better suits your needs.

Exclamation Point IconImportant: Newly created EIN numbers can take between 2 weeks and 90 days to populate in the IRS database that is referenced by The Campaign Registry (TCR), the third-party that helps mobile carriers verify SMS marketing traffic from business phone numbers. It's a good idea to wait at least 14 days after the date you receive your new EIN before registering for SMS to prevent a failed registration because your EIN hasn't updated in the IRS database yet.
