Edit an active Facebook and Instagram Ad or Lead Ad

Article: 000033126
Updated: February 28, 2025

Make changes to the content, audience, schedule, budget, or payment for a Facebook and Instagram Ad or Lead Ad that is currently running, to help improve its performance

You can edit a Facebook and Instagram Ad or Lead Ad that's scheduled to publish, or while it's live and running, without having to create a brand new ad. It's a great option for when your ad is:

  • Performing well and you want to extend the end date or increase your budget.
  • Isn't performing as you expected and you want to modify its audience or content.
  • In need of updated payment information.

Just make your changes and re-publish your ad. Changes made to the ad content (headline, URL, description, and image) or audience are submitted back to Facebook for approval before they go live in your ad, which can take a few minutes.

  1. Click Audience growth ... > Ads.

  2. To help narrow your search:
    • Select "Active" or "Scheduled" from the Status drop-down menu.
    • Select an option from the Sort By drop-down menu.
  3. Next to your active or scheduled ad, click Manage

  4. Click the ... button in the upper right-hand corner of the Ad Details page, and select the part of your ad you want to edit:
  • Edit Content - Change the ad's headline, URL, display URL, button text, description, add emojis and edit the image. For lead ads you can also change the contact details you ask for on the Lead Form, and the URL for your privacy policy. If your ad is political in nature, make sure the box is checked!
  • Edit Audience - Select the gender, age, country, location, and interests for the people you want to target. You can switch between a custom audience and a lookalike audience at any time, or switch between multiple lookalike audiences if you have them too!
  • Edit Budget & Schedule - Increase or decrease your budget, and shorten or lengthen the duration of your ad. If your ad is scheduled, you can change the start date, but once your ad is active, the start date is fixed. When the date range is changed, you still need to meet the minimum daily budget of $1.00 (US) for your ad. Your budget total is cumulative, so if you're reducing your budget, you can't change it to an amount below what you've already spent for the ad.
  • Edit Payment Settings - You can update your existing payment information, or create a new payment method from one of Facebook's accepted payment methods.
