Creating Lead Hyperlink Widgets

Article: 000050408
Updated: July 18, 2024

Build a widget for hyperlinked leads, which allows you navigate more easily between leads in Lead Gen & CRM and Salesforce

Once you have set up your Salesforce integration with Lead Gen & CRM, you may want to include widgets that make it easier to view and manage your leads. In addition to the lead score widget, Lead Gen & CRM offers a lead hyperlink, allowing you to quickly navigate between leads in Lead Gen & CRM and Salesforce.

Before you can create widgets, you must connect your Salesforce account with your Lead Gen & CRM account. Additionally, you must be an administrator in both your Salesforce and Lead Gen & CRM accounts.

Creating Lead Gen & CRM ID Custom Fields

Two custom fields must be built within Salesforce - one for the numeric Lead Gen & CRM ID value mapped from Lead Gen & CRM, as outlined below, and a formula field that displays the hyperlink as a clickable URL.

To create the first custom field:

  1. Log in to Salesforce and click Setup in the top-right corner of Salesforce.
  2. Click Customize > Leads > Fields in the left menu.
  3. Add a new field in the Lead Custom Fields and Relationships section.
  4. Select the Number field type.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Label the field as Lead Gen & CRM ID.
  7. Set the custom ID field parameters.
  8. Complete the Field-Level Security.
  9. Add the field to a page layout.

Note: Field-Level Security controls what profiles will have access to this field. The field is hidden from any profile that is not checked on this screen. By default, as this is a lead field, the field will be added to the Lead Layout.

Custom ID Field Parameters

The following are the required parameters for the custom ID field:

Parameters Description
Length Set to the default of 18 (unless you have Custom Salesforce rules
for Number fields).
Decimal Places Set to the default of 0.
Field Name Set to its auto-populated value.
Description Field optionally left blank.
Help Text Field optionally left blank.
Required Checkbox left unchecked.
Unique Checkbox left unchecked.
External ID Checkbox left unchecked.
Default Value Left blank.

Mapping Lead Gen & CRM ID

After creating the custom field in Salesforce, you will need to map the field values in Lead Gen & CRM. This must be done before you can create a custom field for hyperlinks.

To enable mapping:

  1. Log in to Lead Gen & CRM and click Settings in the left toolbar.
  2. Click Salesforce, located under Third-Party Settings in the left panel.
  3. Click the Lead Mappings tab.
  4. Locate the Lead Gen & CRM ID CRM field that was created in Salesforce.
  5. Select Lead Gen & CRM ID in the middle column drop-down menu.
  6. Select Always use Lead Gen & CRM value in the right column drop-down menu.
  7. Set the Lead Gen & CRM ID Widget field as Unassigned/Do not include.
  8. Click Save Mappings.

Note: In the Lead Mappings tab, the left column pulls in all of the mappable CRM fields. The middle column shows the Lead Gen & CRM field that the Salesforce field will be assigned to. The right column handles how data will be updated.

Regarding Lead Score Syncing

In order to see these updates reflected immediately, you must make an update in the lead records by saving a field on the lead's contact record.

The sync runs every 15 minutes. The next time the sync runs, Lead Gen & CRM ID will pass into the field in Salesforce. The widget will populate with the link back to the Lead Gen & CRM record.

Formula Hyperlink Field

Once you have mapped fields between Lead Gen & CRM and Salesforce, you can create a special custom field. This custom field is a formula field that displays the hyperlink as a clickable URL back to Lead Gen & CRM. This field requires both Lead Gen & CRM's widget formula and a custom field in Salesforce.
