Resetting Salesforce Tokens

If you've forgotten your Salesforce token, learn how to reset and retrieve it

To access Salesforce via an API, you will need to provide a security token. In Salesforce, this security token is a data key that is used in tandem with your password. Together, the token and your password allow for more security overall. This article will detail the process to reset and retrieve your Salesforce token.

Resetting Tokens

As the token is needed to access Salesforce, it is important that you keep information on the token. In the event that you misplace your token, you will need to reset your token.

Unfortunately, Salesforce does not provide the ability to view your token within its web application. Due to security reasons, if you cannot remember your token, you must reset your token in order to retrieve it.

To reset your personal security token, do the following:

  1. Log in to Salesforce.
  2. Access your Salesforce settings.
  3. Enter reset into the Quick Find search bar.
  4. Click Search.
  5. Click Reset My Security Token.
  6. Click Reset Security Token.
  7. Navigate to the email address that is listed in your Salesforce personal settings.
  8. Open the security token email.
  9. Use the new security token as needed.

Once you have reset your token, Salesforce will send you an email containing the new security token. It is absolutely imperative that you save this email to a safe, secure location. Otherwise, you will need to reset your security token every time you need to access Salesforce.

Refer to Salesforce's external help documentation for more information about Salesforce security tokens.

Important: Lead Gen & CRM has no control over how Salesforce grants application permission. Salesforce may change how permission is obtained at any time and without warning. These procedures are constantly changing. The information in these procedures may be outdated.

Note: If your administrator has enabled Salesforce's Two-Factor Authentication for API Logins setting, you will need to use the code generated by Salesforce Authenticator to obtain a security token value.
