    Select a list
  3. Click Tags > Edit List's Tags above the list's name.
    • Note: Any list that is currently tagged will show the tag labels below the list name in this section.

      Create a tag option
  4. Enter a tag name in the Select a Group field and hit Enter, repeating as necessary.

When adding or editing list tags, be aware of the following:

  • Clicking Edit List's Tags will display all tags currently attributed to the list.
  • Clicking the Select a group text box when it does not have text in it will display all tags across all lists.

Refer to Using the Tag Manager for more information on list tags.

Adding New Lists to Tags

In addition to adding tags to lists, you can do the reverse and create new lists that automatically apply a list tag.

To create new lists with a preset list tag, do the following:

  1. Click Lists in the left toolbar.

    Setting List Tags

  2. Click the desired tag under List Tags in the left panel.

    Select the desired tag
  3. Click Add New List.
  4. Enter a list name.
  5. Optionally, enter a list description.
  6. Select the destination folder for the list.
  7. Optionally, click the Make this list available in the Contact Manager checkbox.
  8. Click one of the following toggles:
    • Rules-Based
    • Manual
  9. Click Create List.

    Add a new list

Sending an Email Across Multiple Lists Using Tags

Using list tags allows you to create lists with very specific segmentation, while still maintaining your ability to interact with those segments in aggregate. Ultimately, this grants you increased control over communications with your contacts.

Consider as an example an email campaign regarding an event. The event strategy deals with the following locations: Boston, Chicago, and San Diego. Each of the locations has their own dedicated list in the application. Email messaging in regards to venue location, dates, and even travel plans will differ for each list. As such, each requires a unique email.

However, a marketing team may want to send a link to a survey to all event participants, asking general questions about what could be done to improve events moving forward. You can use tags to send the survey email to all of lists that have the event tag at one time.

To send an email to multiple lists while using the same tag, do the following:

  1. Click Email in the left toolbar.
  2. Create or edit an email.

    Setting List Tags

  3. Click Send.

    Send the email
  4. Set the appropriate time and date parameters.
  5. Add the desired tags under Recipients.
  6. Optionally, click Exclude recipients who have already received this email.
  7. Optionally, click Exclude recipients with low engagement.
  8. Click Send.

    Email send settings

The email will then be scheduled to be sent to all members of the lists with the selected tag.

Workflows Based on List Tags

List tags can also be leveraged for both tasks and workflows.

For workflows, list actions can be set to either:

  • add to lists with tag
  • remove from lists with tag
