Pause or unpause your Constant Contact account

Article: 000005772

Suspend your account during a period of time when you're not actively using it, and unsuspend it when you're ready to resume your marketing activities

If your marketing activities are on hold, suspend your account to store all of your content, reporting, and contact information until you're ready to use it again. Here's what you need to know:

How to suspend your account

If you don't need to use your account every month, you can suspend it for a small monthly fee instead of canceling it.

Please contact our Billing Team. Our representatives will walk you through the ins and outs of suspending. You can't suspend your account over chat.

Which features you can still use while suspended

While your account is suspended, you can:

  • Create emails.
  • Store and access your contacts and lists.
  • Upload a file of contacts.
  • Keep your sign-up forms active, so you can continue to collect contacts.
  • Send legacy automated Welcome Emails.
  • View and manage reports.
  • Keep the images and documents stored in the Library.
  • Create Events and Event invitations.
  • Create Surveys.

While your account is suspended, you cannot:

  • Send test emails.
  • Schedule and send live emails and Event invitations.
  • Send any automation paths, including welcome paths, legacy automated birthday and anniversary emails, automated email series, or automatic resends to non-openers. They're paused for the duration of the suspension and resume when the account is unsuspended.
  • Use Social Post features.
  • Activate Events.
  • Open registration on already-activated Events. Suspending closes registration temporarily.
  • Activate Surveys.
  • Continue to receive survey responses. Accounts with an active survey aren't able to collect responses while in suspension.

Any add-ons you've purchased, such as SMS or recurring marketing services, will automatically cancel upon suspending your account. Your SMS registration will be deactivated, and your SMS number will be forfeited immediately.

How to unsuspend your account

When you're ready to use your account again, you can quickly and easily unsuspend it. All you have to do is log in and click the Unpause my account button in the banner at the top of the page.

If the payment method you have on file fails, you'll be prompted to choose your email plan and update your payment options.

You can use your account immediately. You pay a pro-rated fee to cover the time between the unsuspend date and your usual billing date and then continue to pay based on the standard pricing plan you chose for your account.

Exclamation Point IconImportant: You can't unsuspend your account and then request to suspend it again during the same invoice cycle. If you unsuspend in the middle of a billing cycle, you'll need to pay a pro-rated fee for the current billing cycle and then one full invoice before you can suspend your account again.

What happens when prepayment funds are depleted

Your account isn't immediately canceled when your pre-payment balance reaches zero. Your account is automatically renewed for prepayment. No refunds will be offered.

If you don't have a credit card on file for automatic renewal, your account is placed on hold until payment is arranged. After 75 days of non-payment, your account will be canceled.
