Find the best time to send an email

Article: 000005674

Review your send history and open rate reporting to determine the best time to send your emails.

Your contact list is unique. Getting to know the habits of your subscribers is a process of trial and error, but every campaign is a learning opportunity. For example, when a career counselor realized her audience reads her emails after work hours, she tried sending at 6 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. Her open rates increased, because her emails appeared at the top of her contacts' inboxes when they got home.

To determine the best send time for your contacts, we recommend that you look at trends from past emails. Use the following methods to better target your send time for your contacts:

  • Look at send history - First, compare the send history for your campaigns with low open rates versus your campaigns with high open rates. Send history can be found within the Email campaigns table on the Reporting tab. Take note of any differences you see. Perhaps your campaigns with lower open rates were sent in the morning, while your campaigns with higher open rates were sent in the afternoon. Or perhaps you have better open rates when you sent on a Monday or Tuesday versus a Thursday or Friday.

  • Review the Open report - Focus on your emails with the highest open rates. Then, take a look at the Opened reports and review the Unique Opens to see if you notice any patterns, such as a common day of the week or a particular time of day that your contacts opened the email.

Once you determine the best time to send emails for your audience, be consistent with how often you send and when. Your subscribers will come to know when to expect your emails, and this will help to improve your open rates.
