Contacts in the Awaiting Confirmation status

Article: 000039527
Updated: January 3, 2025

Understanding and managing contacts that haven't granted permission for you to email them through the Confirm Opt-in Email

When you enable the Confirm Opt-in Email for new contacts or send a Reconfirm Opt-in Email to your existing contacts, you're asking them for their express permission to email them. You can't send email to these contacts until they actively grant you permission by clicking the button in your email. Until they do, these contacts are placed in the "Awaiting Confirmation" status. Once they grant permission, they're moved into the "Subscribed - Express" status.

Permission to Send IconGet permission: Using sign-up forms ensure that you receive and document express consent from your contacts, which satisfies Constant Contact's email permission policy as well as GDPR and CASL regulations.

How do I see which contacts are in the Awaiting Confirmation status?

  1. From the contacts dashboard, click the Contacts tab.
  2. Click All statuses > Awaiting confirmation in the Email Status section of the drop-down menu.

Contacts tab selected, All Contacts drop-down menu expanded, EMAIL STATUS section and Awaiting Confirmation option

What to do about contacts in the Awaiting Confirmation status?

Contacts that are in the "Awaiting Confirmation" status can re-join your list at any time through a Sign-up Landing page or through any of our list growth tools. If this happens, they're sent a new Confirm Opt-In email and must click the button in the email to grant permission to be added to your list. If they don't, they stay in the "Awaiting Confirmation" status.

If contacts let you know they didn’t receive the confirmation email, have them check their junk or spam folder. When you enabled the Confirm Op-In email, you chose a "From" name and subject line. Have your contacts look for that in their inbox. If they still don’t find it, please reach out to our Account Review team for help.

What happens if I delete contacts that are Awaiting Confirmation?

Contacts that are awaiting confirmation aren't counted towards your billable contacts. We also prevent you from sending them emails. You can just leave these contacts on your list and don't have to do anything specific with them.

If you decide to delete these contacts, they're removed from your account. If you upload a contact list with contacts that were previously in the "Awaiting Confirmation" status, they're uploaded back into your account with the same status. The status is removed only when the contact grants express permission to email them through the Confirm Opt-in or Reconfirm Contacts Email.
