Offer survey incentives

Increase the number of people who take your survey by offering them a reward

Offering an incentive can boost participation! Here's how to do it:

When to Use an Incentive

Survey incentives are usually not necessary if:

  • The survey is short and not time-consuming to take.
  • Participants already know how they will benefit from giving feedback.

Survey incentives are beneficial when:

  • Previous surveys have gotten low response rates.
  • A survey is long, time consuming, or has several open-ended questions.
  • Prospective respondents are indifferent to taking your survey.

Announcing the Incentive

When you share a survey with potential respondents, include a brief description of the incentive. Here are some common places to include that description:

  • On your social media page with a link to the survey.
  • On the survey itself or in a text block above the first question.
  • Next to the survey links you include in newsletters, coupons in emails, or on your website.
  • In a survey invitation email or in reminder emails to non-responders.
Note: If your email's subject line mentions the incentive, be very careful to remain compliant with the CAN-SPAM deceptive advertising clause. Any subject line that mentions an incentive must also describe the terms and conditions.

List any detailed eligibility terms on a webpage or in an online PDF. Link to the terms from within the survey or invitation email.

Providing the Incentive

Provide the incentive itself and/or instructions for claiming and using the incentive within the survey or invitation email.

  • Let respondents know if you will email them information about how to redeem the reward.
  • Add a screenshot or image of a coupon.

Recording Who Earned the Incentive

To record who earned the incentive, share the survey link in any Constant Contact email and the respondents' email addresses will be recorded with their responses automatically.
